What is DECA Competition?

As mentioned on the competition page, DECA competition consists of a variety of events. There are many categories to choose from with different career focuses.

Individual Events

For individual series events, participants take a one hundred question, career cluster test and participate in two role-plays. The test questions and role-play scenarios coincide with the event chosen. For role-plays, individuals have ten minutes to prepare and ten minutes to present to their judge.

First Time Competitor

If you are a first time competitor and a freshman or sophomore, you can participate in the principles event. This individual series eases you into the competition world and is a great opportunity. You only compete against other first time competitors.

Team series events also consist of a one hundred question, career cluster test and two role-plays. However, since there are two participants, the test score will be the average between both tests. Additionally, team series have thirty minutes to prepare and fifteen minutes to present.

Projects greatly vary between events. Some projects include a test and presentation, while others are a written paper and presentation.

DECA competition at Appleton East High School begins on November 4th at Mini-Districts, held at Appleton East. This is a miniature version of competition that allows competitors to get a feel for what it is like. Appleton North, Appleton West, and Xavier High Schools participate as well.

The next competition, Districts, is January 4th-15th. This year the event is fully virtual. Each competitor will take an online cluster exam (100 questions/60 minutes). Online testing will be between January 4th-15th. Each competitor will participate in ONE roleplay. They will receive login information to access their roleplay and a spot to submit their video. Competitors will RECORD an UNEDITED video of themselves completing the roleplay and submit it by January 8th. To register, click here!

State competition is held in Lake Geneva and is an in-person event as of right now. After State, you may qualify for Internationals which is in Anaheim, CA this year. Watch the promo video above from last year for a look into DECA competition at the International level!
